2011 Deception Pass Dash Rules
This annual paddling event is open to all human-powered craft.
Paddlers under 18 yrs of age must have their parent’s signature on the release form at check-in on race day.
The challenging 6 mile course (click for map & description) takes paddlers through the swirling waters of Deception Pass.
All racers should have significant paddling experience and proven self-rescue skills in their race-day boat.
Please make safe decisions about your paddling ability based on race-day conditions. Safety boats will be on the course, but remember you are using their resources if you get in trouble, and they may not be able to get to you right away. There is no shame in checking in, collecting your tee shirt and raffle prize, and staying on the beach with a nice hot cup of coffee and a meal.
Registration payments are final. There are no refunds.
Your vessel must have inherent flotation/buoyancy. Decked boats are required to have air bags, sealed bulkheads, or foam flotation.
Flatwater racing and training boats are not allowed.
Paddlers must WEAR a PFD and carry a whistle.
Paddlers must be prepared for immersion in extremely cold water.
Paddle and/or boat leashes are recommended.
A VHF radio and/or visual signaling devices are recommended. If you carry a VHF we ask that you keep it turned off while you are racing, to prevent holding your mike key down inadvertently and interfering with the safety crew’s communication. Safety crew will monitor ch 69.
All paddlers must report to the check-in table, pick up their boat numbers and sign the waiver. Multi-paddler boats (tandems, triples, OC6 etc) please check in all at the same time.
We reserve the right to adjust the start time or cancel the event based on race-day conditions.
